Case Study: Qingdao Liuting Airport Connects Broadcasting System with Yeastar MyPBX

Reliable communication is critical for an airport to be able to function on a daily basis. Airport communications face challenges with aging infrastructure, changing technology needs, and a mash-up of incompatible systems.

Airport communication systems need to be dependable, have failover support, be easy to use, and provide scalability to accommodate future demands.

With all of that in mind, Qingdao Liuting International Airport looked to Yeastar to update and reduce the costs of their communication system.

Qingdao Liuting Airport is located in the city of Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. It annually serves 12 million passengers and 200,000 tons of goods, cargo, and freight.

In a peak hour, Qingdao Liuting Airport can handle over 5,000 passengers arriving and departing on 14 boarding bridges, 44 gates, 82 domestic airlines, and 12 international airlines.

In other words, it’s a big airport with a lot of traffic.

Qingdao Liuting Airport Communication Needs

Airports have a high volume of goods, baggage, and passengers so their communication requirements can be more demanding than a typical business, warehouse, or other service or hospitality application.

Some of their needs included:

  • More Users: They wanted to add more users without changing their existing IP-PBX.
  • New Extensions: They wanted all new extensions to automatically be able to use direct dialing with extension numbers.
  • Broadcast Announcements: Boarding gate staff needs ability to use the phone to broadcast announcements to passengers.
  • Intra-Airport Communication: Aiport departments needed a faster, smoother internal communication system to relay information.
  • Stable and Reliable: The internal communication system will be operating 24/7 so, they needed as stable system with as little downtime and failure rate as possible.
  • No Maintenance: The system needed to be simple for anyone to use. Easy management, no maintenance, and no special expertise required.

For many PBX manufacturers that would be a tough list of requirements to satisfy.

Yeastar was able to meet their special needs with two PBXs from the MyPBX U5 Series.

Interoperable Yeastar MyPBX U500 Solution for Airports

Yeastar deployed two MyPBX U500 IP-PBXs to the existing IP-PBX at the Qingdao Liuting Airport that was powering their broadcast system.

The Yeastar MyPBX U500 is a standalone hybrid IP-PBX that excels in its flexible compatibility with PSTN/ISDN BRI lines plus GSM/UMTS networks and IP lines, giving users the benefit of the latest VoIP technology plus the reliability of traditional phone networks.

The scalability of the U500 is a major benefit that businesses take advantage of. It has modular technology that enables the company to choose the combination of FXO, FXS, BRI, GSM, and UMTS modules that they need.

Additionally the U500 is interoperable with leading VoIP phone manufacturers such as Yealink, Snom, Grandstream, Aastra, Polycom and Cisco.

When Qingdao Liuting Airport said that they needed to add more users without changing their existing IP-PBX, the MyPBX U500 was the obvious choice.

MyPBX U500 Deployment at Qingdao Liuting Airport

To upgrade the Quingdao Liuting Airport communication system, we needed to deploy two MyPBX U500s.

One U500 acted as the primary server while the other PBX was used as the standby server.

The U500 was then connected to the airport’s existing IP-PBX through peer-to-peer mode.

Here’s an overview of what the installation looked like:

airport-installation

This setup gave the airport increased functionality including:

  • Multiple IP phones for various departments
  • An IP call box registered to the MyPBX U500, set to “auto-answer”, and connected to the audio output with a power amplifier
  • Intercommunication between MyPBX extensions and extensions of the old IP-PBX
  • Broadcasting at the boarding gate with the IP phones – pick up the phone, dial the extension number of the IP Call Box, and the call is answered automatically allowing staff to make announcements

Yeastar Airport PBX Solution Highlights

With a Yeastar PBX solution, Qingdao Liuting Airport gained a communication system that they could rely on, has flexible features, and is easy to use and maintain.

Hot Standby

If the primary server goes down, the backup U500 PBX takes over and the admin gets notified via email and SMS text message.

Compatibility

Compatible with other IP-PBX systems and traditional PBXs including other management systems such as ERP, OA, CRM, and dispatching systems.

Quick deployment

The U500 PBX does not require complicated cabling and can be easily configured and managed online through a web interface.

Flexible Internal Communication System

Internal communications are accessible with a network port or Wi-Fi. Terminals like IP phones, mobile softphones, and PC softphones can also all access the system.

Easy Maintenance

With the intuitive and user friendly GUI, anyone can perform daily management and maintenance duties.

Built-in Features

The U500 comes with conferencing, video calling, call recording, and intercom functionalities that boost productivity and increase efficiency.

Clowns dress up for a living. They make people laugh, entertain children’s birthday parties, but after they’ve removed their makeup and taken off their costume they know what they do for a living. A musician knows what they do for a living.

But what exactly do MSP’s and Managed IT services companies do for a living? What do the exact people who might read this blog do for a living every day?

As most small mid sized businesses go, you strive to constantly change what you’re doing in an effort to make these big permanent changes based on our view of what the market needs.

Does the market need a better horse? Or are they better off with an automobile? Henry Ford didn’t rely on his customers to tell him what they needed. I know what you’re thinking, back then things were different, and you’re right.

If you had an efficient factory you could afford to pay people more, and build things more efficiently. You could easily produce huge changes, which caused highways to be built across the United States and the world, increased wages, get people to where they’re going faster, and create huge industries with manufacturing. But we’re running out of cheaper machines, and we’re reaching the limit of how cheap labor can be.

Then it was TV: If you spend enough money, if you spend enough time, you could win. You could buy your way into a successful business, and there are many many business today that still thrive in that environment. I know! We have a better mouse trap! Push! Push it all onto the world! If I find enough people and I find enough money i’ll sell enough. But this requires you to act like the king, telling people what to do next; Mass marketing requires average ideas because you’re selling to the mass.

At Yeastar we believe this is a time of leadership, a key time of change in the environment of selling IT and communication solutions to customers. The way our Partners make change and become successful is not by using resources of money or power, but by leading and being resourceful with the vendors they pick for their solutions.

Dealers of telecommunications can’t continue to all keep repeating the same patterns. The days of the Nortel reseller are long, long gone. The ideas of the customers that we collectively used to serve need to be brought back to today’s reality.

Creating and spreading the idea of the value of a new phone system that’s actually low cost, AND reliable, has a lot behind it. After All, you can change a piece of code, the code then operates differently after it’s altered; and there is a distinguishable moment in time when the code was changed that makes it behave differently after the change.

The S-Series Phone systems are here living in that moment. We’ve created a product that we believe hit’s every single painpoint that we’ve uncovered in our 10 years of manufacturing, and our decades of experience in telecommunications. Our mission is to lead IT providers. Not by using a lot of money, or power, but by sharing our solutions with sellers of hosted and premise based phone systems, giving the industry’s largest margins, manufacturing reliable communications equipment, and offering the latest in software ingenuity to truly enable our partners to grow and evangelize a new and better alternative to their customers’ existing communications technology.

You don’t need to spellbind everyone … it doesn’t work anymore.

The Yeastar S-Series phone system provides a fresh opportunity for telecommunications dealers to connect people with these new ideas. Many of whom are familiar with expensive hosted phone systems, or analog pbx’s, but now thanks to the internet, thanks to lower costs, and thanks to a reliable offering, you can target these customers, but you need to be clear in your marketing of them.

It turns out these folks, new targeted customers, or perhaps existing customers who haven’t been approached in months, or even years, are looking to you to help them identify and connect with these new technologies. It doesn’t have to be about money, or factories, you’re offering a straight-forward solution that will improve their communications and helps them continue to grow their business through better tools.

What our partners do for a living is to find something worth changing in their customer’s businesses, and then aligning it with a solution they believe has value. We then help them assemble as many of those types of people as possible through evangelizing our partners, and our products. The most common trait our most successful partners all share is that they won’t abide the status quote; they want things to move forward, instead of following the rules and offering the same solutions as everyone else they take their eye off following the bounding dot, blindly along.

They also recognize that they cannot convert everyone by brute force, but by in the creativity of the solutions that they provide. This can happen in many different ways; especially in technology: Linus of Linux and Bill of Microsoft both found different ways to get people to navigate their technology. Smuckers didn’t invent toast and jam, they merely decided that they offered the best jam and found people that agree. Tom’s shoes, they didn’t invent shoes, they just found a compelling way for people who are looking for shoes to engage with their product (buy 1 pair of shoes, get an exact pair donated for free to someone with no shoes).

In conclusion – don’t go quietly about what you’re doing, tell a story, you connect the customer, you lead them to your solutions, and you make the change. You can do this by challenging yourself with these questions:

  1. What solution or product are you losing to that, you’re looking to upset? If you’re not upsetting anyone you’re not changing the status quo.
  2. How are you going to connect to them / what is your common story?
  3. Who is your audience? Don’t focus on the mechanics of what you’re building, but the solution that you’re providing.

Discover the curiosity in your community of customers, and share that with new potential targets. You don’t need permission from customers to give them a beneficial solution, and in case you do … we’re waiting for you to show us where to go next.

All you need to do is start.

Monitoring Status of Shared Lines with SLA Feature on Yeastar S-Series VoIP PBX

What is SLA?

Since 30.1.0.7, our S-Series VoIP PBX supports SLA which maps the key with LED on a multi-line phone to different external lines. Shared Line Appearance (SLA) feature not only helps users share SIP trunks and FXO trunks but also helps monitor the status of the shared line. SLA feature works with BLF key on IP phones.

  • When an incoming call is received, all the SLA stations are informed of it and may join it if the shared line allows to barge in.
  • When an outgoing call is made by one SLA station, all members shared with the same line are informed about the call, and will be blocked from this line appearance until the line goes back to idle or the call is put on hold.
How to use SLA?
  • Enable SLA feature on a FXO trunk or VoIP trunk.
  • Create SLA Stations.
  • Configure BLF keys for the shared line on the stations’IP phones. The BLF key value is “extension number_trunkname”.
SLA Sample Configuration

You need at least two IP phones to set up SLA. In a boss-assistant scenario, the boss will share the FXO trunk 5503305 with the assistant. If the boss’s phone is extension 5000 and the assistant’s phone is 1000, then you can set up a shared line by following these steps:

1.Go to Settings PBX Trunks, edit the FXO trunk, check the option Enable SLA and configure SLA options.1

  • Allow Barge: check this option, the other SLA station shared the same line could press the BLF key to join the conversation.
  • Hold Access: if set to open, other stations that share the line could retrieve the call; if set to private, the call can be retrieved only by the station that previously put the call on hold, not by others sharing the same line. Go to Settings PBX Call Control SLA to create SLA stations to monitor and share the FXO trunk 5503305. Here we create two stations, one for extension 5000, one for extension 1000.

2. Go to Settings PBX Call Control SLA to create SLA stations to monitor and share the FXO trunk 5503305. Here we create two stations, one for extension 5000, one for extension 1000.

2

33. Configure BLF key on the boss’s IP phone (extension 5000). If the configuration is correct, you can see the BLF key LED is green.

4

4.Configure BLF key on the assistant’s IP phone (extension 1000). If the configuration is correct, you can see the BLF key LED is green.

5

5. All the configurations are done. You can enjoy the SLA feature now.

SLA Operations
  • Making Outgoing Calls
If the BLF key shows the shared line is idle, the boss or the assistant could press the BLF key to use the line. After hearing a dial tone, he/she could dial the external number to call out.
If the BLF key LED turns red, which indicates the line is in use now. The other SLA station could not use the line to make outgoing call now.
  • Handle Incoming Calls
When an external call reaches the shared line, all the SLA stations will ring. Any of the stations could pick up the call.
  • Bargining-in an Active Call
When there is an active call between an SLA station and an external number through the shared line, other SLA stations could join the call by pressing the BLF key if “Allow Barge” is enabled for the shared line.
  • Hold and Retrieve Calls
During the call, the SLA station could press the BLF key to hold the call.
    If Hold Access is set to “open”, other stations that share the line could retrieve the call;
If Hold Access is set to “private”, the call can be retrieved only by the station that previously put the call on hold.

Yeastar S20 Reviewed by GetVoIP

We sent a Yeastar S20 IP PBX to Matt Grech at GetVoIP to take a test run of our new phone system to see what he thinks.

The S20 is part our brand new S-Series VoIP PBX systems for small and medium enterprises. We designed the S-Series to be field-upgradeable so that you can avoid ripping out and replacing your entire telephony platform.

The S-Series features a scalable modular design, allowing you to increase the number of users, call capacity, or even change the type of telephony connection as your needs or application changes.

The S20 supports 10 concurrent calls and is perfect for small businesses with less than 20 users.

Even though it’s the entry-level model, the S20 is still a “powerful package,” says Grech, “with support for almost any connection, from SIP/IAX to E1/T1, and even cellular networks and connections to the PSTN.”

Setup with Nextiva SIP Trunk

The backbone of the S20 is Asterisk 13 which is connected to an intuitive and easy to use GUI.

Grech explains that setup is simple and that it should only take a business a few hours to set up.

In this review, Nextiva provided the SIP trunk and got the S20 registered in a matter of minutes. After that, Grech explains his experience navigating the GUI (pictured below) which was accessed from a desktop icon on his computer.

s20-setting

“After that it was just a matter of accessing the IP phone’s online web portal, and anyone familiar with provisioning a IP phone will understand this process – simply log into the phone’s web portal and plug in the necessary information,” writes Grech.

Settings – Extensions, Trunks, Call Controls and Features, Call Recording, Voice Prompts

Yeastar gives you complete control of how you want your phone system to be set up with an easy to use GUI, that can be accessed from any web browser.

“The PBX settings allow you to make changes to your extensions, trunks, and call controls, call features, and even recording or voice prompts,” writes Grech.

You  can also configure network, security, user permissions, storage and email settings.

Get Alerts from the Event Center

“One unique feature that really stood out to me was the addition of an Event center,” said Grech.

The Event Center can be controlled from the settings page on the GUI.

“With the Event Log system, administrators can instantly be alerted through email, SMS, or even a phone call when a specific event happens,” explained Grech.

Latest Technology, Loads of Features

Grech also talks about the latest technology that’s powered the S-Series PBXs.

We’ve included quality components from the NXP industrial grade chip set, to the Samsung RAM, and Toshiba flash memory to make the S20 perform at optimum levels.

And the Asterisk 13 operating system provides a long list of features to satisfy any business need.

You don’t have to have a hosted phone system beacause “The easy to understand GUI makes it easy for even the least tech savvy business owner to setup and keep track of their phone system, while providing a full list of features to rival more expensive subscription based services,” says Grech.

“With a strong focus on channel partners, Yeastar can now empower those providers, or even business owners, to provide the cost effective solution that fits their needs, whether that’s in a simple office, or miles off the coast on an oil rig,” Grech said.

Email creates a fast, reliable form of communication that is free and easily accessible, allowing people to foster long-lasting, long-distance communication today. Similarly, Yeastar S-Series VoIP PBX is engineered for the communications needs of today and tomorrow. But do you know what magic tricks you can play when utilizing these two together?

Setting a System Email in S-Series VoIP PBX

Firstly, make sure that your S-Series VoIP PBX is connected to the Internet. Go to Settings > System > Email to configure the system email.

1

After finishing the configuration, click “Test” to test the email. In the prompt, fill in an email address to send a test email to verify the Email settings.

After setting the system email, let’s play the magic tricks together.

1. SMS to Email / Email to SMS

If your S-Series VoIP PBX have already been installed GSM or 3G Module with SIM card, and the GSM/3G trunk is ready to use, you can use SMS to Email and Email to SMS features on your S-Series VoIP PBX.

Image that you are hanging out, but suddenly there is an urgent email needs to be sent. You can easily edit the email content in a particular form through the SMS on your mobile phone and send it to the GSM trunk number on your S-Series VoIP PBX.

The S-Series VoIP PBX will automatically transform the SMS to the email format first, and then send the email to the target email address through the pre-configured system email.

The Email to SMS feature is exactly contrary to the above steps.

2

2. Fax to Email

With the system email, Yeastar S-Series VoIP PBX can send the received fax as an email attachment to the designated email address which could be associated to an extension or a custom one, enhancing business efficiency and promoting environmental protection.

3

3. Voicemail to Email

More and more people get used to listening to the voicemail through their extensions in case of missing some important messages. However, does it mean that only by using the extension can you listen to the vociemail? The answer is no.

With the Voicemail to Email feature, Yeastar S-Series VoIP PBX can easily helps you listen to the voicemail by simply sending the received voicemail to the corresponding email address of the extension through the system email so that you can listen to your voicemail everywhere even if your extension is not around.

44. Receive Event Notification

Do you remember the Event Center in the S-Series VoIP PBX?

When some anomalous events occur, S-Series VoIP PBX will notify the associated personnel through email immediately.

5

5. Recover Password

In this Internet era, password is required almost for every account. However, the more complex the password is, the more easily to be forgotten.

To eliminate such trouble, Yeastar S-Series VoIP PBX provides “Recover Password” service with high efficiency and security.

Simply click the “Forgot Password” in the login page and enter your username, the system email will send a link to your associated email address for you to modify password. Simply click the link to enter your new password and then you can use the new one to login the system.

How to Sell a Premise VoIP PBX vs Hosted PBX

$
0
0

When it comes to VoIP PBX systems, channel partners have to choose between selling a premise based solution or one that is hosted in the cloud.

The arguments for and against each is solution are varied, but for those use to selling a hardware based PBX system, there’s no denying that more and more customers are becoming interested in hosted solutions.

At Yeastar, we work with thousands of channel partners each year who find themselves selling our line of VoIP PBX systems against other VAR’s selling hosted (or the providers themselves).

Armed with these experiences, we’ve sat down to construct a bullet-proof way for you to sell against hosted VoIP PBX systems offered by your competitors.

Based on the touch points these competitive resellers will use with your customers to convince them hosted is the way to go, the following can become an effective weapon in your sales arsenal.

Cost - A hosted PBX is more affordable than a premise system

The first area hosted PBX VAR’s love to champion is cost. While it is true that with a cloud PBX there is no upfront costs outside of the handsets, over the long term, a cloud PBX can cost your customers a lot more than a premise based solution.

With the aggressive price points on the new S-Series, Yeastar partners can easily show how a modest upfront investment will save them thousands in recurring monthly fees over the life of the service agreement.

Customization – A hosted PBX has all the features and functions you need

Hosted PBX VARs often point to the variety of features and functions available with their service.

Unfortunately, they rarely point out that these are the same features available to everyone - it’s difficult to truly customize a specific instance because each hosted PBX is using the same underlying software.

Changing it for one customer would mean also making it available for everyone. This means in practice, hosted VARs can’t do much to customize the PBX specific to the client beyond a basic adding or removal of features from the user interface.

Those channel partners that are reselling the new Yeastar S-Series have much more flexibility. Thanks to the new App Store and UI, Yeastar channel partners can highly customize the base system for the exact specifications of the customer.

Future Proof – A hosted PBX future proofs your organization

You will often hear about “no more rip and replace” when considering a hosted PBX solution.

Preying on the pain caused by PBXes of the past, hosted VoIP VARs often point out that their subscription based model allows an organization to future proof, because they’re always developing and implementing new features.

Need to a new user? That’s easy too. A few clicks and bam, you’ve got a bigger system without having to buy a new box.

Well a lot has changed since the early days of VoIP, lead by Yeastar’s S-Series. With the Yeastar S-Series modular design and field upgradeability, channel partners can easily expand the capacity and improve performance without having to replace the entire system.

Simply swap-out a wide variety of modules and bam you’ve got a bigger system without having to buy a new box.

Scalability - A hosted PBX is more scalable than premise systems

Similar to their futureproof argument, hosted VoIP companies and their VARs often brag about the ease of scalability their systems provide.

You’ve heard it “In just a few clicks you can…”

The reality is that S-Series premise based VoIP PBX systems from Yeastar are just as scalable. With a robust build quality featuring industry leading components and a modular design, channel partners can easily scale a single SSeries system as their client grows.

Rip and replace really is a thing of the past.

Security - A hosted PBX system is more secure than premise systems

You don’t have a military grade hosting facility, right?

Well, you don’t have a dedicated IT person on staff.

Did you know, hackers are everywhere!?

While all three of these may be true for your customers, that doesn’t necessarily mean that a hosted PBX system is any more secure than one you could have running in your IT closet (or under your desk).

The reality is that hosted PBX providers and systems ARE susceptible to the same sort of attacks, hacks and hurdles that premise VoIP PBX systems are concerned about if not more.

Why? Scale! It doesn’t always make sense to attack or hack into one small company when you can spend the same time going after a hosted PBX provider and gain access to thousands of systems!

This not to say the cloud is not safe, but to demonstrate that both hosted and on-premise VoIP PBX systems need to properly address security concerns.

On-premise or hosted - The debate continues

As you can see, when it comes VoIP PBX systems, hosted is NOT the clear cut winner.

While hosted PBX providers and channel partners will continue to evangelize the benefits of their solution, in almost every situation an on-premise solution, like S-Series, will provide everything a customer needs.

Don’t shy away from the competition and on premise VoIP PBX systems, win with Yeastar today.

Stop Nuisance Calls with Blacklist/Whitelist Feature on S-Series VoIP PBX

Unwanted phone call can be a real nuisance, which is inconvenient and annoying at the best of times, especially for the elderly or vulnerable it can be quite frightening. It is a “plague” not only for individuals but also for companies. Mobile phone users can install some Apps to filter and block these calls easily, however, for companies, how to protect extensions from this nuisance? With Blacklist/ Whitelist feature, Yeastar S-Series VoIP PBX can easily help you get rid of them once and for all.

Blacklist

This feature is similar to the blacklist of mobile phone, but there are still some differences.

Blacklist on the S-Series VoIP PBX is used to block incoming and/or outgoing calls. If you list a phone number of the incoming call in the blacklist, you will not receive the call from this number any longer and the caller will hear the following prompt: “The number you have dialed is not in service. Please check the number and try again”. The system will then disconnect the call. Likewise, if you list the phone number of the outgoing call in the blacklist, you can not dial that number any longer.

  1. Blacklist groups

Nuisance calls are varied and usually attempt to promote a product, service, aim or ideal to you, or even defraud and blackmail you. Categorizing the blacklist will greatly help companies optimize phone management.

1

  1. Block calls with number segment

It can be easily found that lots of nuisance calls are of same number segments. In this case, you can use the wildcard matching to flexibly block the phone number with some specific segments. For example, if you enter “400.” in the number field as below, all phone numbers of any length beginning with 400 will be listed in the blacklist. While entering “95XXX!”, all five-digit numbers beginning with 95 will be listed in the blacklist.

2

  1. Blacklist types

In addition to some nuisance calls, you may also encounter “one ring call”. If your phone rings once, then stop, think very carefully before calling that number back because your phone may face high charges. Such “ring-back” or “ one-ring” scams have long plagued the telecom world, but now the problem has come back strong worldwide.

With Yeastar S-Series VoIP PBX, you can also prohibit your extensions to make outgoing calls to these numbers to avoid huge losses.

3

Whitelist

You probably meet a problem that the number segments of your customers’ phone numbers happen to be listed in the blacklist. If so, how to deal with it?

Don’t worry about it. Whitelist feature of S-Series VoIP PBX allow you to add dependable incoming/outgoing numbers which has higher priority than the blacklist.

For example, we listed all phone numbers beginning with 400 in the blacklist before, however, your customers’ phone number is 4005915259. Simply list this number in your whitelist, you can make outgoing call to this number and also receive incoming call from this number.

4

In addition to the blacklist/whitelist feature, S-Series VoIP PBX also provide built-in auto-call recording feature to automatically save the conversations of the fraud calls, providing dependable evidence for tracing the criminals.

High Availability with Hot Standby in S-Series PBX

Understanding the Hot Standby in S-Series

Hot standby or redundancy is a redundant method in which one server runs simultaneously with an identical primary server. And all data is mirrored to the secondary server in real time. Upon failure of the primary server, the hot standby server immediately takes over, replacing the primary server.

The Hot Standby solution offers you the ability to provide high system availability, helping to prevent the unnecessary business loss caused by unexpected server failure. You can set one S-Series PBX as a primary server, set another S-Series PBX as a secondary server.

The hot standby server (secondary server) can automatically and instantly take over if the primary server goes down. Callers still reach the people they need and business can continue as usual. Meanwhile when the on-site PBX is down, you could receive failover notification. S-Series PBX supports email, call and SMS notification.

hot-standby-table

Note: Hot standby feature is supported on S-Series firmware version 30.2.0.8 or later.

Precondition

The two servers in the failover pair must meet the following requirements:

Quick Start

  1. Verify the basic information of the two S-Series PBXs.
  2. Edit the PBX hostname to verify the two S-Series PBXs
  3. Set up hot standby service for the two PBXs.
  • Set IPPBX1 as a primary server.
  • Set IPPBX2 as a secondary server.
  • Reboot the two PBXs to make hot standby service take effect.
  1. Test hot standby service.
